97 x .2

Everyone is giving you the same method, and everyone is correct.

Since we work in a base-10 system, however, there is a way to do this that may be easier, as long as you remember that .20 is the same as 1/5.

Double the number. If that's hard to do in your head, then double 100 and subtract the double of 3, Anyhow: 194.

But you're not looking for 2 x 97; you want .2 x 97, so move the decimal point a place to the left.

Note that this only works readily with numbers like 2, 2.5 and 5. It will work with other numbers that divide rationally into 10, but that may be too much trouble.

And for things like 17% of 97 I suggest you do what everyone else suggests, and also use a calculator.

As 20 is in percent,we will write 20/100.
So the formula will be: 20/100 multiplied by 97.
That is 19.4.

First convert 20% to decimal

Remove the % sign. Divide 20 by 100 to get the decimal

20/100 = 0.2

Multiply 97 by the decimal to get the amount

97 x 0.2 = 19.4

The answer is 19.4

19.4 is 20% of 97
