For my plan (T-Mobile), I just call my cell number (from any phone) and when it goes to voicemail, hit star and punch in your password.
You may have to call your provider to get a password or to reset your password if you don't know it.

I live in France but I know it's the same technique in the UK as well so maybe it'll work for you.

You call your phone until it goes to VM and when the initial message is saying it's thing (ie. before the bip), press the hash key # and then you'll probably be asked to enter a code. Usually the code is 0000 by default.

Highly secure system!

It all depends on what type of phone tou have and who the provider is. On my cell phone from centennial I call my cell number and when my message starts I key in a pin #0000, and it takes me to my voicemail. I also have voicemail on my home phone (Embarq) . To check the messages on that all i have to do is dial #55 and it takes me to another place to enter my pin and check messages! I don tknow if this helped you any but as long as you know your service providers pin-usuallly 4 digits you will be able to check it!

You call your number and wait until your voice mail answers. If you have Sprint or Nextel you press * to interrupt the message and then it should prompt you for your password. If you have Verizon, then you press the # sign instead of the * key.
