hi im 19 and going to be a mum for the first time. Im 22weeks pregnant and i am a little worried as i have started to get aches in my abdomen and lower back pains. I rang my midwife and she said to just take some paracetamol and rest but these pains keep reoccuring. I still feel my baby moving but i am a little worried about this as no one seems to be listening to me. I have also had lots of problems at the beggining of my pregnacy and wonder if its linked to this. I hope some body could help me and advise me. Thanks

I have had one child and I did experience the lower abdominal pain.. some of this can be due to the muscles in your stomach still seperating as they do go right out to the sides.. your muscles and bones will soften to allow your body to be able to pass your child.. i have a friend who had a lot of pain like yours and hers was related to the fact that she had a lot of one particular hormone that softens your bones, through what i can work out this makes your birth actually easier as her labour was very easy.. she had so much of the hormone that her teeth moved about in her mouth too.. some ppl have very comfortable times during their pregnancy some ppl don't each birth is different and some niggly things that occur you just need to put up with,, when I was worried about particular things when pregnant the main advice i got was if painful things occur and you experience any serious discharge namely blood then be concerned.. i know its hard be concerned and all but dont worry yourself either everything is probabally fine..

Hello there dear.
I really want to assure you that the things that you are feeling are very common considering how far along you are in your pregnancy.
Your body is just reacting to the added strain and weight of your pregnancy. It is quite common for the tendons and muscles that hold your uterus in place to be strained and achy at this point. They are starting to be stretched to hold the new shape and size of the pregnant uterus.
The lower back pain is in the same category but a bit more of a deferred sort of pain. You are carrying extra weight even if you have not gained very much yet. Most of all, it is the position of the extra weight that causes the problem. It could not be in a worse place in regard to your back. Pregnant women and a back ache really tend to go hand in hand. The only time it is of special significance is when you are near your due date and experiencing what is referred to as "back labor". It is almost like feeling your contractions in your back. Some women have been known to not even realize they were in labor because the pain was focused in their back. This is obviously not what you are feeling.
Count your blessings that you CAN lie down and rest a bit. You are lucky that you do not have a busy toddler to chase and to lift! Take this opportunity to baby yourself a bit. Try a heating pad or hot water bottle on your lower back. Maybe a hot (not too hot) bath would be soothing to your aching muscles.
Like all the aches and pains of pregnancy, this too shall pass.
Try to enjoy this blessed time in your life, soon you will be a busy mother.
Blessings
Lady Trinity~

As everyone else has said back pains are just apart of pregnacy and so is abdomenal pains but if the backpains are too much to handle there may be something else. When my friend was pregnant she had back pains that made her just fall on the ground...I cant remember what its called but women usally get it closer to the end of pregnancy but it can occur ealier...but dont worry they baby is fine you just feel it. If your just having back pain you may want to look at the link at the bottom. The first link is for a strap that will you can wear though out the day and it takes the pain from your back and the pressure off your abdomen the second link is a pillow that Ive heard is great for backpain

Don't take ibuprofen whatever you do!!! Paracetamol is the only safe over the counter drug to take when pregnant for pain!!!! All these pains are normal. I know you don't want to hear that!! I certainly didn't when I had my kids. It felt like no one could understand what I was going through but trust me I do!!!!! Nothing feels normal when you pregnant so if your'e anxious speak to someone. When you can, take a nice long HOT bath and burn some lavender scents or put a few drops of lavender oil in you bath and just relax!!!!!!!! Don't worry what everyone around you is doing or saying and just take care of yourself and your little one. T

Try to enjoy your pregnancy and if you are worried go to your nearest clinic or health care provider or your doctor and they will do a check up to see whats going on.

Your body is taking a lot of strain so don't pick up heavy things esp off the floor and bend your knees if when you need to pick something up. Try not to sit too long in the same position and don't stand for too long. Alternate between the positions. Ask someone to give a back rub after your relaxing hot bath to ease the pain a bit and don't forget your feet!!!

Good luck and congratulations.

First, good luck with the baby!

Second, the pains are probably just your round ligaments stretching. I had the same problem with this pregnancy (35 weeks now) until my uterus reached a couple inches above my navel. Sometimes the pains were kind of shooting from top to bottom and just about floored me and took my breath away, but don't worry, your baby is fine.

My OB-GYN just said to take it slow and not make any sudden moves, as that's when it happened the most, like rolling over in bed or getting up quickly.

You'll be okay, don't worry. :)

Some aches like you describe are because of the changes going on inside your body, such as growth and the organs being pushed aside to accomodate your baby. Usually the Dr. will say dont worry unless its sharp pains or you have bleeding or the baby stops moving. Try to relax and enjoy this time of wonder, and dont worry about pestering the midwife with your concerns because it is her job to be there for you. Congrats and good luck with your little one.

im 22 weeks pregnant also and i find that i wake up a lot in the night with abdomen and lower back pains, but ive been told not to worry as our abdomens are under a lot of pressure through stretching etc. ive found that lying on my sides helps with this at night instead of lying on my back. i also had problems at the beginning of my pregnancy and ive had my scans to reassure me everythings ok, im sure you and your baby are just fine! good luck and congrats x

Also i read another persons comments and DON'T take ibuprofen or asprin, my midwife told me not to!! paracetamol only!

these pains are normal in pregnancy but if your worried then go and see your doctor or midwife. Try and rest and not get to upset and anxious, if your midwive was concerned she would tell you and would send you to see a doctor at the hospital. Pregnancy is generally a worrying time, my wife is due our 3rd baby in 3wks and she is even worried but just think that in a few mths you will be a new mummy holding your baby in your arms. www.bounty.co.uk is a good site for mums and mum to be you will find alot of information and can chat with other woman in your situation. good luck

aches and pains are all aparrt of pregnancy. I didn't have any with my first but my last 2 were pains all the time. Everyone is different. I would say just make sure to keep on resting, drinking lots of water, and just as you are not bleeding or anything like that. Good luck and wish the best.

Try not to worry. Im guessing everything was fine at your 20 wk scan, and as you still feel the baby move all seems OK. These pains must be scary for you, but im pregnant too and am told that its not uncommon. Im sure youl go on to have a happy, healthy baby but if you get really worried get your gp to book another scan.
