As a person who watches the Rockets regularly, I can say that YES, McGrady does deserve to start. Alot of people judge him because he's not scoring 30 plus point per game, but the fact of the matter is he hasn't had to. He has unselfishly given the team to Yao Ming and taken the role of playmaker. He is averaging 6.3 assists per game, which is a career high. It is however worthy to note that since Yao has been out of the lineup with an injury McGrady has taken over as the leader of this team. He has scored over 30 in several games and even had a 40 plus game against the Mavericks. Without McGrady the Rockets would be one of the worst teams in the league. So...for these reasons, among others, I say yes, McGrady does deserve to start.

Seriously, I have doubts about our ability to choose for All-Star starters. Did you see both lineups?

Here are the serious contestant to win MVP this year: 1.Nash 2.Bryant 3.Nowitzki 4.Arenas
From that, you would expect to see all of them in the starting lineups if possible. But it wasn't... And still, we couldn't get 3 out of them to be.

What about McGrady? Sure, he's really athletic and a good player, but have you really heard of him this season? I don't think he really deserves to be on the starting 5 as much as Nash does. Maybe it's because Nash is Canadian... Jealousy.

I also wonder about O'Neal and Nowitzki...

Who cares? With consecutive MVP awards & a third one on the way, does anyone think Nash is disappointed?

The MVP is chosen by people who know. The All-Star reserves are chosen by people who know.

The All-Star starter voting may as well be a junior-high student council election or American Idol for athletes: a meaningless popularity contest that has nothing to do with true achievement.

Think of the All-Star game as a season-long beauty contest, national pride contest(Yao), and dunk contest, all rolled into one. May the men with the most SportCenter clips win!

If he gets on the starting line up, the reason is simple.

China people. McGrady is on the same team as Yao.

How many Chinese votes are cast in a year? More than the population of America maybe.

McGrady only got in there because he plays with Yao. All the Chinese voters voted for Yao and TMac. If TMac were on a different team, he would not have been selected.

It's kind of like the year Ichiro hit the US. He got the most all-star votes. His Seattle teammates all got way more votes than they deserved too, just because the Japanese fans picked all Mariners.

based on the stats or performance nash should have been a starter. but sorry to say that the basis for starters is the peoples vote, even shaq was voted to start in the east eventhough shaq missed lots of games. mcgrady has more votes than nash that made him a starter of the west.

McGrady is a stat machine, but he can't win in the playoffs. He's never been to the second round.
