That is essentially correct. Socialism is basically a communistic ideal whereby the good of the many outweigh the good of the few, and unfortunately that includes individual rights and freedomes. A socialistic society does not allow people to do what they want with thier lives. It tells them what they must do based on what it needs. A socialistic society does not allow someone to prosper if others don't. If you make $50K per year as a hard working laborer, the govt will take all but what it thinks you need to survive on and give someone who is unemployed because they are strung out on drugs the same amount of money that it left you with.
Socialism hinders individual excellence, capitalism and freedom of expression.
Socialism critically depends on each member of the society being satisfied with thier lot. They must not strive to grow or advance beyond the fate that is given to them. Once a person desires to be more than they are, and tries to excell or achieve a level beyond thier station, Socialism fails.
On a very small scale, Socialism can be a good thing. A team working together toward a common goal, a family, even, in some cases, small church groups can benefiet from a Socialist structure. But once you get a group of people that can be subdivided into compteting smaller groups, Socialism fails.
The best example of the failure of Socialsim was the Soviet Union.
