Get something sweet like a cuddly toy, or one of those ones you make yourself! It's nice and special but not too expensive or to serious! And if your feeling a little cheeky get a bottle of pink cava/champagne to go with it! I'd say try and keep it light hearted and she'll be happy with anything :o)

Flowers but they have to be the right sort - anything wrapped in plastic is out! Ditto anything obviously picked up from a service station or the local supermarket. Get a hand tied bouquet delivered to her work. I wouldn't go for roses for 2 reasons - firstly if you haven't been going out too long you don't want to come on too strong. Secondly although roses look nice, they don't last more than a few days before the heads start drooping. Go for a mixed bouquet maybe with some lillies in it which smell amazing and last for about 2 weeks. Chocolates can be nice but if she's on a diet or worried about her figure they may not go down too well. You could also think about taking her out for a meal somewhere cozy and romantic but not too posh, you don't want to intimidate her.
Don't forget a card but make it a nice simple one - those awful huge ones or those padded ones remind me of school days and personally I find them tacky. The same with those awful bears with hearts sewn onto them - just tacky.

Is Valentines Day a big thing for her. Some girls don't really see much into it. Having said that, you could treat it like a mini milestone?
Personally I don't much care for Valentines, but as it's a bit of a milestone, I suggest you take her out for a nice romantic dinner. Has she mentioned a favourite restaurant or a new one she fancies trying?
Or does she go for more of the chocs and roses sort of thing?
Or does she love opening presents? Jewellery? Is there an out of print book or rare film that she'd love to have?
It's hard to guide you without knowing what sort of person she is. Or the sort of stage your relationship is at - is it serious or more chilled out see how it goes? Is she a traditionalist or more of a modern girl?
If your sure of her tastes then surprise her. If you're not, why don't you ask her how she feels about Valentines?

Make her a picnic with her fav foods. Tell her you'll pick her up but you're not telling where you are going, Drive to somewhere nice (beach/lake/mountain top) and watch the sunset, then have your picnic. At the end of the night give her a little present. Maybe a bracelet or necklace. Trust me the fact that you put time and effort into organising the picnic and included her fav food will win you big brownie points!!!!
(Now if you could conveniently suggest to my boyfriend that even if he could just remember valentine's day he'd make me a very happy girl.)

Personally I'd go for some nice flowers and cook her a meal. Then she knows you've made an effort and it's not too expensive.
If your feeling a bit flush, buy her dinner, but not underwear as I think that's too personal and too soon at the mo.
Good luck!

I'm not a lady but I've always booked a nice restaurant and occasionally arranged for flowers to arrive during the meal. Seems to work!

Rainbow bunny really summed it up. Combine that with a nice meal (possibly cooked yourself, or depending on finances, anything from take away to a nice sit-down). I have found that even an inexpensive bracelet or chain and locket goes down well also.
Best of luck!

Flowers and chocs are always great or nice and sexy (but not tacky) lingerie. More importantly give her yourself for the evening, im sure your company and love and affection would mean so much to her.
