you tax dollars rebuilding the Gulf Coast or Iraq?

I am concerned about the lack of progress re-"patriating" the poorer folk back to their homesteads.

I am concerned as the more affluent in New Orleans (you know, the ones with the means to escape the hurricanes in the first place) have said how they would like a "new" New Orleans, one which doesn't have so many poor people around.

I am concerned about the apparent LACK of concern for the people of New Orleans, Mississippi AND Alabama, all of which suffered losses due to Katrina. Once these areas were determined to be Federal Disaster Areas, FEMA takes over, and obviously, as we now know, FEMA's response to the first Natural Disaster under Bush's watch was inadequate and rife with corruption.

Obviously, I love America. I served in the Army, went to school in a state university, pay my taxes, etc. I perform a job, if I dont do that job, I dont get paid. If I call an exterminator to get rid of rats, and he doesnt do the job, should I pay him? Of course not. When our government doesnt do ITS job, should we continue to subsidize their corruption?

I was just in New Orleans. The business district and the French quarter don't even look like there was ever a hurricane there.

We sent New Orleans a tremendous amount of aid (both public and private money) and now enough is enough.

Did everyone have insurance? If not, WHY should WE pay for them. They bet the farm that nothing would happen and lost. Do I like paying thousands a years to insure my properties? NO
But if anything ever happened to my things I would not be demanding YOU and the Government replace and fix them!

Our money should stay in America. Iraq should pay to rebuild themselves - with our minimal help. I do not want my money pouring in New Orleans though. We have done enough. Let Nagin figure out what to do. HE should have rebuilt the levies which were the main cause of the worst damage so I was told.

I think if our tax dollars go to rebuilding New Orleans then we need to make sure that the people know that we are never going to do it again.

It's a coastal city that is below sea level. If the people and business decide to go back, then build at your own risk.

If an insurance company takes the risk and insures the people of the area then they should be forced to pay if they lose on the gamble. They sure don't ask for help distributing the money when the premiums are rolling in.

It is the responsibility of the people and the property owners there.
They need to use their insurance and their own funds to rebuild a city that is 14' under sea level. I sure as hell don't want my tax dollars paying to rebuild. Enviromentalists say that the melting ice caps will raise the ocean 20-30' in the next 10 years. That would put New Oreleans 34-44' under sea level. That would be a waste of tax dollars. If the people there want to waste their money let them!

I would prefer neither. The sad reality is that we have the responsibility to help rebuild Iraq if we want to establish a democracy.

In the US, the federal government has not typically been responsible for rebuilding after a hurricane.

Take a look at the rest of the Gulf states. They are rebuilding themselves. You never hear Mississippi expecting the federal government to rebuild them, and they took a major hit, as well.

It isn't a matter of compassion. That is what private charity is for. And the US has been forthcoming in its support of the Katrina devastation. Compassion makes for poor federal policy-making.

The State Governments of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are responsible for
the cleanup and repairs and rebuilding of the
Gulf Coast. YES!! NO to both areas!!!!The tax
payers of the Gulf Coast States should pay instead of the taxpayers of the entire USA!!!!

I'd like to see my tax dollars used in my area. Their top priority was the Superdome, let them all move back in there. The Saints won't be using it for at least a few more months.

Hm.. Would I rather see my money going to rebuilding an area where people were hit by a disaster, then left in the dust by their own government. Or would I rather see my money go to a pointless, reasonless bloodbath catching innocent civilians in the crossfire.. Seems kind of like a no brainer.

LOL I can't believe conservatives are cruel enough to support propaganda wars, but not helping their own people. As proof of the responders above me. Conservatives really love America don't they.

Look at all other industrialized nations threatened by hurricanes, flooding, or other national disasters. They have all engineered substantial strategies to prevent disasters from destroying their coastal communities. The U.S.A., on the other hand, has done virtually nothing to prevent disasters like Hurricane Katrina from happening again. -RKO-

Let capitalism and business do their works. New development and free enterprise can turn anything around for the good.
