Apple Inc. "invented" it in 2000, under the supervision of Steve Jobs. MP3 players were around before iPods, but iPod just to do a better job.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume that Microsoft had invented the iPOD. This cleverly realised video works on this very assumption and applies Microsoft’s particular product branding style to the original iPOD packaging with hilarious results (I especially like the addition of the system requirements list).

Though the use of Photoshop this video parody featured below shows how the iPod’s packaging would appear had it of been an MS product and, if the distinctly contrasting design sensibilities of MS and Apple need emphasising - i.e., minimalist vs abject clutter - then this video serves to show just how far apart their branding styles are from aesthetic perspective.
