I've never heard of anything like that ...my mum had 5 VERY healthy children while raising pets ...we all are ok !!
One thing you should NOT do is change cats litter box ...their poo is very dangerous to the unborn baby !! Hope this helps !

Hello there dear. You are reacting to the caution that is given to all pregnant women to be cautious when cleaning a cats litter box. Toxoplasmosis *can* be contracted from coming in contact with an infected cats feces. Simple hygenic procedures will prevent this. Also toxoplasmosis is only found in cats that are allowed outside (they pick it up from the rodents that they hunt) and if you have an inside cat I would not be worried.
If it still concerns you ask someone else to clean the catbox for you while you are pregnant.
Some reptiles can carry salmonella which would be a very ugly thing for a pregnant woman to contract. There again, if you handle snakes, turtles or other reptiles be sure to wash your hands throughly. Better yet, don't touch them while you are pregnant.
As far as dogs or any other animals I would not worry.
Take care and good luck.
Blessings
Lady Trinity~

Not the dog, but she cant be around the cat litter, I was working at an animal hospital, and I got pregnant and I had to quit because I couldnt be around the cat litter or the anesthetic and other things too. So, if you have a cat dont let a pregnant woman around it.

Animals don't cause any problems to your baby, But I have heard that litter boxes do carry harmful bacteria and should not be inhaled, So if you have a cat, I would suggest you stay away from the litter box or put the cat outside, Just to be safe
Good luck and Congratulations!

Never heard of such a thing. Now I know after the baby is born you have be careful with some animals. My dog got jealouse and tried to bite my som when he started walking. Of course you dont want a cat in the room with the baby even though it is a myth that they take the babys breath away. Some animals have alot of dander so have to be careful with that because it can cause you baby to have breathing problems. You shoul not have farretts' rabbitts, rats mice or gineau pigs .Good luck with your baby.

With cats, you just have to avoid the litter box. Other then that, I cant think of anything else. I've had cats and dogs through 2 pregnancies and all was fine.

you can have your animals. its the cats box that puts a harm to your unborn child. its has a type of disease in it that can harm the baby. it would be best if someone else changed the cat box for the pregnant woman

Only if the animal attacks your stomach or has rabies...
The only thing they say is not to change cat litter, as it can cause toxoplasmosis. That's just a precaution, though, because cats can only get that from being around feral (wild) rats and other rodents that have it.

No to the dog part. But if you have indoor cats do not change the litter box. Have someone else do it.
