Trim is fwd and aft component while stability is the port and stbd component of the ships ability to maintain an even keel.
If the bow is higher the stern by a foot then the ship has a 1ft drag. If the ship leans to the right 10 degree off the center, the ship has a starboard list.

TC has the right idea, but stability is not port-starboard. trim has to do with the angle of the vessel lengthwise, be it bow down or bow up.

stability is an all-encompassing spectrum that deals with the 6 main ship motions, and the ships response to disturbances. Things like center of gravity and center of bouyancy are main stability concerns.
