Actually, it has very little value. Most often a signature is NOT needed to create obligations. Be very careful! Your actions can create those obligations and serve in place of your signature. Also, any electonic correspondence can serve as your signature in the majority of forums of the USA.

If you sign it, you're obligated. Always read the fine print though. There are some contracts that have a 2 or 3 day period where you can opt out. Be very careful with that signature of yours, don't cosign anything for anyone!

there is usually a little time to change your mind.
Best thing to do is think before you sign. If it requires your signature it will surely require a time to get through with whatever you are signing.
