To be honest, I was all for natural birth until it came right down to the moment of the pain. It was pretty intense. I finally broke down and asked for a shot of Demerol. I realized my tolerance for the pain wasn't as high as I was hoping it would be. I didn't feel I let myself down either. You either have the tolerance for it or you don't. I was just happy to deliver a beautiful, healthy, little girl.

I think it really depends on how you feel about a "natural birth" or using the pain relief available to you. It's a very personal decision. Even if you decide that a drug-free birth is right for you, remember that you can change your mind during labor up until a certain point. Laboring in water is supposed to greatly decrease the level of pain, but I've never gotten to try it, so I can't tell you for sure. I used Stadal with my first baby, an epidural with my second and my last two were c-sections. The c-sections were the hardest to recover from and the epidural was the easiest. Research all your options, remember that labor is painful no matter what you do, make a plan and then concentrate on having a healthy baby!

I think that this is just an individuals decision. The only pain releif you will get from labor is an epidural or birth of the baby. Nothing else works. Natural birth is very painful, but it has been done for thousands of years. As far as being more difficult- no. Child birth is difficult no matter what. Epidurals can make it more difficult to feel how you are pushing. No epidurals for me in all 4 labors. I got through it by counting ceiling tiles. Concentration on something besides the pain is the best way.

i would imagine a natural birth would deffo be alot more painful and difficult than a drug assisted birth.
but there are good and bad points to both which are deff worth considering,
i would love to have as natural a birth as possible, due to the recovery time being quicker, and the fact that some drugs actually can slow labour down. but i am unsure if i could handle the pain of the birth as i have an extremely low pain tolerance.
the best person to discuss this with would be your midwife or doctor, who can outline all the diff tpes of pain relief and what type of birth would be right for you.

HI, I just had my 3rd and last child. I went with the epidurel all three times. I diffently would do it again, there was no pain at all. With my first child you had to wait and get the epidurel when you had dilated to I think a 5 and now you can get it as soon as you start feeling the pain and it is intolerable. At first the epidurel scared me just the thought of the needle in my back, but when you are in pain that little stick isn't anything when you know that in just a few minutes all pain will be gone. I acutually got to enjoy labor without all the comotion of screams. I hope this helps, but in the end it is YOUR decision. Like someone else said, if you decide to go without any drugs, be sure you do let your doctor know that as the pain progress you may change your mind. Good Luck.

Never tried either way, but from my understanding, the main advantage to a natural birth is that your recovery time is a lot shorter. If you have a c-section, you're not only dealing with the stress that comes from being a new mom, you're also recovering from major surgery.

With both of my children, I had a epidurial. Labor and delivery were a piece of cake! Not one bit of pain. I plan of having an epidural soon as I walk into the hospital with my third. I do not have the tolerance nor the strength of natural delivery. Some women do, they are totally focused and get through it. Me...I want an epidural so I can relax, and enjoy my labor and delivery, without looking like a lunatic screaming and crying in pain. it boils down to the womans choice.

Yes it is more painful but you have to think about it. Recovering from a c-section is a lot more painful and last for weeks. And it will have a long term affect on your body.

Depends on what you want. I have had both and I perfer the drugs. The drugs they give you do not harm the baby but some women want to experience labor along with all the pain.

If you decide to go this route, just remember that you can change your mind once your in labor. Just make sure that you have a plan B if plan A does not work! And, do not feel bad about yourself if you decide to take drugs...labor is hard work!!!

It is more painful and difficult than C-section but after the delivery, it isn't as painful as recovering of your surgery. You will be able to do exercise earlier than having C-section.
