Yes, it's all about image. It depends on what sort of an image the artist is trying to create around their music. For example you see "scantily clad" women in R&B and Rap videos because that's is the sort of image that artists in that genre wish to portray (and that is the market in which it sells and sells well!) but if you take a classical artist or soul singer such as Katherine Jenkins or Lemar it is not really appropriate or necessary to have that kind of marketing as it is not as appealing to the sort of people who are in the target population (people who the artist / record company are trying to sell the music to) for that brand of music.

Short term interest increase from a limited market segment only, but it does help and can generate debate socially.
Ultimately though it will be down to the song, especially as the radio and non-visual presentations still are an important element of the 'success' formula.
Ever see the 'Not the Nine O'clock News' skit "Nice video, shame about the song"? It expresses it brilliantly.

DEFINATELY! Everything is commercialised these days and alot of commercialism revolves around sex now! Adverts, songs, movies, you will find it hard to sit in front of the box for more than 5 mins and not see either a scantily dressed woman, a bedroom scene or even hear "come-ons" in words of songs!

Depends on people. That repels me, for instance, because I know they tried to make up for quality with scantily dressed women.

Yes, I believe they do. Men are visually oriented creatures, I'm afraid. However, if the song is no good, I, for one, am not going to buy it, no matter how sexy the women in the video are!

Not always, but I've heard some really 'run of the mill' songs that have done very well when accompanied by a 'raunchy' video.

Yes, if the women are so hot, spicy or tasty you can't take ur eyes of them, i would definitely buy it, seriously...but if the music is so lousy dat you cannot even describe it, why waste ur hard earned money, even if the women are hardly wearin anything....Money does not fall out of the sky anyhow, anyways...But as they say, SEX SELLS...
