I work in a small office. My boss and colleagues are very nice to me. The problem is, this is not the job I wanted to do. I accepted this job because at the time I was tight on money. When I was interviewed, she asked me what I am seeing myself in the future and I told her about my dream job. She understood that I would moved on to another job and still offered me the job after I assured her that I'd stay for at least 2 yrs before I moving on. On the 2nd day of my current job, I got a phone call from that company that I'd like to work with - which I sadly declined. Now I've been with the company for 6 months and I feel like I cannot grow with this company and get bored with my monotonous work (I really like something challenging for my work). I've been thinking of quiting but I am on moral dilemma because of what I promised my boss. I'm 26 and if I start my dream job - it'll be from the bottom. I feel like I am wasting my time with the current job.

What should I do?

Look for another job. Yes, you gave your word but a boss would rather not have an unhappy employee on their hands. Bottom line, you need to do what you need to do to be happy. Your current company will not do that for you. Take your time, find something else and when you have something secured, take your current boss to lunch and explain the situation to them. If they are any type of a leader, they will understand.

Stay. Be yourself useful with your boss such as business partner and growth your business? Why? Boss and colleagues are nice and nice is a good place to work with for a start up rather than a good job with full of killing field. Remember, boss and colleagues are hard to be nice in a working environment.

A promise is a promise and a promise is kept make u a good earning respect.

Anyway, it's your call. My call is Stay and work out useful with my boss and growth the business. :) cheers.

You say your boss is very nice to you........... what don't you ask her what you should do. If there are no legal obligations in your contract that makes you stay there for whole 2 years then I'm sure she'll let you go.......... or she may even make an offer better than the one in the job you want to join.

I had similar problem. I talked to my manager. He made me an offer that matched the other company was making. So I stayed.

Good Luck!!!

If you feel like your wasting your time then move on. You should've taken the job that you really wanted. Don't worry about your current job, they'll find someone else just go with what's gonna make you happy.

Talk first to the company where you want to work with if it's urgent then you have to quit your present job,but if they don't have immediate need then stay where you at for at least 6months more, meeting half-way with your agreed term.
Don't worry about not fulfilling your 2yrs verbal
agreement with them, bec if you don't like what you are doing there, staying more will just prove to be unproductive too for your employer.

First have your dream job in hand, find one first and then quit this job and proceed with your dream job.

Nothing in hand is waste of time.
Have something better than Nothing.

everybody has to start somewhere
and it;s usually from the bottom.
it you wait too long, they might think you would be too old to
promote.do it now while you are young
and get up the ladder.before you marry and have kids

If your doing what you love to do, then you won't even consider it a JOB. Quit today and never look back.
