I dont think its stupid, we dont look after our world the way we should, and if we dont explore the stars, and find other habitable places, one day we may have nowhere to go, who knows space may hold the answers to all the poverty and starvation but if we dont look we will never see....

It is the same up there as it is on earth... just an extension of our screwed up world. Other superpowers are working to control space same as the Palestinians, Israelis... the Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq and ALL the other belligerent nations. In our capitalist, pagan country it is deemed important to control space before someone else does... This may also be good for the future when the earth becomes inhabitable and we need to start living in SPACE on other planets and moons. This is REAL.

Personally I agree with YOU!

I thoroughly agree with you - I find it hard to believe that there are STILL starving children in the world. Not only that, we have this global warming crisis, and god knows how many wars going on!

It would be so great if we could just even everything out in the world, so everyone had enough of everything, but that is NEVER going to happen.

And like someone else said, it is in our nature to explore - If we hadnt started exploring and creating, we would all still be living in caves!!!!

You know when you go for a walk in the country, and you wonder whats over the next hill? Extrapolate that out and you will realise why mankind has to investigate whats out there beyond our own little 'hill'. We cannot stand still. It's the same urge that gave you that mp3 player you have, which people 15 years ago didn't have.
now don't forget to give something to charity for the starving children, you hear!

But then there are lots of crazy things we waste money on like continuing to bomb Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. And America likes to spen money on space but didn't want to spend anything on the poor people in new Orleans.

Well when its the common Joe on the street paying for it through taxes and we will never get a look in or a trip to the stars so it should be funded from the private sector not the public. STOP WASTING TAXES!!!!

I totally agree. I have lost so many friends and relations (and two pets) to cancer. The money spent on wars and space exploration could be put to far better use in finding cures for the different types of cancers, and other life threatening diseases.

yeah.. i have that thought every time i read about new space missions etc.. it takes the p/iss. Imagine being in a poor country and you hear about the money being spent on such things.. you would feel so worthless and helpless .. it sucks.. where are the united worlds priorities?
