Flash memory = same technology as the memory cards for digital cameras. Most smaller MP3 players have flash memory built in, with some having the ablility to plug in a memory card to increase memory size. Usual capacity for flash memory MP3 player is from 128Mb to 2Gb.

MP3 players with larger capacity such as 20Gb use a miniature hard drive instead of flash memory as flash memory would be too expensive.

Flash memory on an MP3 player is the storage space. Its like a hard drive size, but it has no moving parts.

Yes most players use flash memory rather than a hard drive. Most players have it (up to the ipod nanos), but large ones like the 30 and 60GB ipod videos use a small hard drive. Flash memory is just the form used to hold the songs.

Flash memory (aka memory cards) are addons to MP3 players, phones and digital cameras. They are small and very thin and act as a secondary hard drive.

Most MP3 players have a very small storage capacity and in order to have hundreds of songs stored, you'll need an extra memory card.

They come in various sizes from 512mb on up to 4gigs right now.

Flash memory best for gym etc, and hard drives (up to 60gb) are good for at home listening or taking abroad etc... so depends or where and how much you need to listen
I have a 2gb flash mp3 with fm radio and it has plenty for me to listen to - either at the gym or whereever
