He said he may wave his no trade clause for the Red Sox but not sure who the Red Sox are willing to part with for the Rockies most popular player.

Unfortunately for me, this is a great opportunity for the Rockies. Boston will send Lowell and Tavarez, plus Hansen, or Delcarmen, or BOTH. Now I'm ok withthe Lowell and Tavarez part, but I don't want to see Hansen or Delcarmen go. Everyone talks about what great pitching depth the Sox have in their farm system in means of bullpen. Well they won't have anyone left if they keep trading away for older guys. Who knows how long Helton will last. I say give the Rockies Lowell and Tavarez PERIOD. No more, because Helton is on the decline and possibly just on the verge of collapse. However, he could be great but tey can't risk their bullpen's future. They have said that if for the Rockies to get Hansen or Delcarmen,,, Colorado will have to eat a whole lot more of Helton's contract. So hopefully that's a positive that they won't get either.

The deal (reportedly) would send Todd Helton and a minor league pitcher to Boston for Mike Lowell, Craig Hansen and a player to be named later. This being contingent on the Rockies picking up a large portion of Helton's 90.1 million dollar salary.
At least that's the latest I've heard, which was actually last night.

I believe he will be traded because he is at a crossroads and Colorado will want to get somebody for him while there is time . If Colorado waits too long then what they could get for Helton will decrease. If I was Colorado I would trade him to the Red Sox and pick up some necessary pitching help and minor league prospects. This would also free up some money so they might be able to get more prospects at a lesser price and beef up their opportunities.

Many hurdles would have to be cleared first, but it is true that the Red Sox are in talks with the Rockies. The two most important questions to be answered first are: who pays what portions of Helton's salary, and what type of talent do the Rockies receive in return? It seems it could go either way. Try this:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ :

"Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News says the Rockies are demanding an elite prospect from Boston, which might hold up the deal. The Rox have agreed to pick up $40MM, but want one of Daniel Bard, Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen, Clay Buchholz, or maybe Jon Lester. Fat chance on Buchholz or Bard."

The news reported that the Bosox and the Rockies are real close to a deal. Helton has said that if the deal isn't completed before he reports to Spring training that he'll veto it because he doesn't want any distractions in camp. 16.5 million dollars is owed him this year and that could be a sticking point with Boston.

According to Boston sports radio(WEEI). They said on Saturday (1.27)the Sox and Rockies have agreed on the money portion of the negotiations.

The Sox are offering Lowell and Tavares. The Rockies also want DelCarmen or Hansen.

Red Sox
Mike Lowell
Before spring training.

I still don´t want that trade to happen (as a Yankee fan), but it seems like it will.
