That is enough protection yes however I personally do not suggest AVG.
My favourite free anti-virus by far is:
Avast Home Editon Free
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
It's free and far more powerfull.
Other that that your firewall setting should be fine as it is on Medium.

I think the advice from one or two others is good.
I've been using the free AVG anti-virus with the free Zonealarm firewall for several years now and have had no problems.
It's certainly worth improving the built in Windows firewall.

The Windows Firewall is rubbish!
AVG anti-virus is very good.
Some people moan about it because it never shows anything up but thats what you want. If it doesn't get onto your PC it means the software is working.
I'd suggest downloading ZoneAlarm as well.
I use both and have had no problems for a long time.
Don't surf without protection!

This is only adequate if you have downloaded both their Antivirus and Antispyware programs.
As the first answerer alluded to however, AVG really isn't up to scratch of being your sole protection. AVG and Avast are recommended regularly on here, yet manage to consistently appear just about last in all protection tests. Even in the most flattering tests they only manage to score about 90% protection against all known viruses - meaning they are letting through ONE in every TEN!?
Personally I would avoid at all costs and splash the cash on a decent pay-for program.
If you would be interested in other Security products that are better than these free offerings, you should try either Prevx1, Kaspersky or F-Secure who all score over a 99.x% protection rating. Out of these three my recommendation would be Prevx1, as this is the quickest at protecting against new outbreaks of malware.

Windows xp firewall is not sufficient - employ another such as zone alarm etc this will ensure that any spy-ware that you may pick up will not be able to "call home" before it is found and removed.
AVG is good but do you have anti spy-ware and anti virus? - you should have both. This is not paranoid just common sense as once Your PC is infected it can be a b. nightmare to shift.

=computer slowed down/freeze/leck/software clash
use one anti virus software is enough,it's rule are not 1+1=2
it depend on the software good or not,not good+good=very good
just like MS Window XP firewall=bad
it will eventually become bad+good=worst!
So,I recommad you install AVG!

No, xp firewall is not a good option. Install any other free firewall, like zone labs or kerio. it will give you max protection

Thats not enough. You need something to protect against browser hijacks as well.
All this is free and legal for home use, plus won't conflict with AVG anti virus and anti spyware;
http://www.comodogroup.com/ - Comodo firewall.
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
http://www.mozilla.com/ - Firefox web browser.
http://www.ccleaner.com - Cr*pcleaner Registry cleaner and privacy tool
Winpatrol is a handy utility that manages cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

You really need a dedicated firewall as well.
I use a free one called "Comodo Firewall".
