Generally speaking sociologists no longer conduct social experiments. There were a number of experiments conducted in the 1960s that were harmful to the subjects. Today Institutional Review Boards do not typically allow sociologists to conduct social experiements because of the harm inflicted.

It's called a focus-group.

They don't turn down the lighting and get grown adults to sit on a rug floor just because it's a cool way to ask questions you know.
