but i dont really know anything about it. Is it as hard as the college fire academy running all day long? Can women be volunteers. Is there a large need for them. Who should I talk to. Is my whole idead just stupid. I am currently an emergency dispatcher and i want to be am emt. Still i am interested in what ive seen from the volunteer fire fighters.

It's usually pretty easy to become a volunteer fire fighter. Most smaller volunteer agencies won't send you to any kind of academy; they just have weekly training meetings, where you will learn the skills slowly. Women are usually welcomed, although you may run into the "boy's club" atmosphere every now and again. There's always a need for volunteers! I work as a paramedic in Alabama, and when we respond to rural calls, the volunteers from that area always beat us to the call. If it were a critical emergency, the volunteers' early presence on scene can make a big difference in the patient's outcome.
A good starting place would be to talk to your local fire department. They can find out if there are any volunteer fire departments near you, and provide you with contact information.
Sometimes volunteer fire departments will hold their own EMT training, with the course fees waived if you are willing to volunteer for a year or so.

Volunteers advance new skills or hit upon new abilities. = Volunteers are area of the community - assisting others engaging. - Networking - advance own and specialist relationships. - Volunteer Firefighters && police/sheriff deputies are community. - - The Peace Corps is nationwide, operating around the international.

just go to your local volunteer station & inquire
if you were in Australia you would be welcomed with open arms as the more people who help the better
