Theater in general would take ages to type out here.
I suspect a very valid answer for you to ponder might be take yourself back to Neanderthal times as OG, just returned from a hunt or battle, recounts the tale to an ever increasing audience.

That is like asking "What is the full history of the human race?" Just to big a question. Theatre as we know it was started by the Greeks in 534BC when a man named Thespis first stepped out of the Chorus and spoke lines as an individual. (That's why actors are called Thespians). I recommend you hit the library or local bookstore and get a History of Theatre book. Gillespies "Western Theatre" or A.M.Nagler's "A Source Book in Theatrical History" are good starting points.
