I spend all day on here as I have a mundane job and when I'm not on here I don't actually have any work to do. No-one can see me. I just make sure I have a few bits of paperwork on my desk to give the illusion of working.

No I wouldn't if my job was as boring as yours. Does no-one expect anything of you? What about your boss - does he or she never check that you are fulfilling your job description, let alone your potential? No? Well, as long as you are happy about it, carry on ... one important task is to make sure you clear your history and cookies so no-one can easily nose around and see what you have been up to.
I'd love to know where you work/what you are (supposed) to do?
Any chance of telling us?

I suppose its a question of conscience. You're job may be mundane, but I assume, it helps pay the bills money for food, clothes etc. If you feel guilty, perhaps you should stop or consider changing career in order to find a job you find rewarding and keeps you busy during the day. I don't think you should put your job on the line for the sake of surfing the net, so I suppose if you are sure you won't get caught that it won't hurt anyone now... But if you are so bored, why not ask your boss for more work to do, show your enthusiasm for the job and who knows maybe you might get promoted to a higher position with more responsibility.

I would not tell on you if I saw you, but I would warn you not to jeopardize your job. Find an occupation that you enjoy.
Good Luck.

The only reason to be a super narc would be if there is tons of work to be done that I have to do all myself because I see someone using the internet. If there's nothin going on and it doesn't make any difference to the days work...not a problem. If you REALLY can't find a way to help a co-worker...GO FOR IT....I say it's improving your brain if you are playing solitaire or writing emails or whatever....it's better than sitting idly doing nothing. If you don't feel guilty about it, and you don't get caught at it.........what's the harm??

I wouldnt cause im the worst offender in the office. Spend 90% of my day on the internet or playing solitaire. At least i look busy, im not blatantly being idle like filing my nails or anything. What the boss doesnt know wont hurt him.

I wouldn't if it didn't affect me. I would only do it if the computer I used was shared and they were abusing it, because I wouldn't want the blame- my company moniters internet use apparantly but I don't know how. Someone in the department upstairs got sacked for internet abuse a couple of weeks ago. Be careful because you might be getting spied on by your IT dept.

No!! If you have time to peruse the world wide web instead of working then the blame lays squarely with your employer. If you weren't on the internet then you would probably be doodling on paper and that would be wasteful.

Now wouldn't you be better off looking for a new job.....using the internet.......sounds like your boss doesn't know you exist or maybe he/she knows what you're up to but doesn't mind cause you're out of the way so to speak.
Remember your boss maybe watching your pc.... from behind the scenes.....

no I wouldn't grass on someone, the IT people will know what is going on, if they don't police it then that is their problem.

I couldn't stand having a job with nothing to do, I was in a job like that and i kept pestering them for something to do, in the end they realised that there was nothing for me to do so, I leave in a couple of weeks, hooray

Better ask your supervisor to find you some work and you better do your absolute best to be good at it. Unless you work for the government, sooner or later they will find out the situation and make you redundant.
