Can I get a ..........
when ordering a drink or food in a pub, does it annoy you if someone says, can I get a beer, or can I get a coke?
Its "Can I have a coke" not "can I get a".
Does it wind anyone else up? Or is it just me?

For what its worth, I am not knocking the American people. I am more annoyed with British people who use the phrase in Britain

You are right. I've never picked up the habit of saying it, because as a British person, it seems false and dosn't fit in with the way I usually speak.
Also, how is it possible to 'Grab a shower'? The water would surely run through your fingers!
It is not nearly as annoying as the phrase 'Yummy Mummy' though! That winds me up. I don't know who/what country made that up, but they need a good ticking off!

Silly Gorbie is correct. It's may I have a coke? The word "can" means you have the ability to do something. May is a polite request.

No, it doesn't annoy me at all. I'm British and I use the phrase all the time. It might not be 100% correct in terms of official English grammar, but I've heard a lot worse.
What annoys me more is when people leave the apostrophe out of it's when they concatenate 'it is'.

That particular one doesn't bother me very much but there are a bunch of other phrases that annoy the heck out of me. Like "I could care less" when it's obviously "I COULDN'T care less", that one makes me want to go berserk on something.

Yeah. Gets my goat too.
I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing but we are all getting more "Yank-a-cised" or "51st Stated" every day. My mate wrote a thesis about it. The Coca Cola Culture Marches On.

Yes it does annoy me!! It is abuse of the english language. Someone asking "Can I get a coke?" should be answered with "Yes, help yourself" as they are not asking for someone to fetch the item, they are asking if they can get it themselves.
