Cricket is so popular because of the excitement it offers , besides it requires very little investment .
children in India grow up watching cricket on tv and so naturally have a desire to emulate their cricketing idols.
I think the game is addictive , once you start playing ,there is no stopping you .

Cricketers comes in most of the ads.
All the tv chanels give importance to cricket news and stars
Even DD fights for the rights to telecast
Moreover its interesting to watch and speak as many others does the same.....

indians mostly prefer safe sports....aiming at minimal physical contact..dats d reason y we dont excel in games like boxing karate etc..kabbadi is an exception ..but that too is resticted to north india..
cricket is a gentlemans game...it is as safe as any sport can probably get..and indians r thorough gentlemen...n cricket was patronized by d british more than any other sport...

Not to offend India but, that's the only sport Indians are good at...
