I bought a used book for 10cents at a gas station when I was 15; bored to tears, and it was the only fiction they had. It was hilarious. Not all of it was intentional, but some was. That was 15 years ago and I still have it, and reading it still makes me laugh out loud. It's called The Tenacious Miss Tamerlane by Kasey Michaels. It's a 'Regency romance', but still worth checking out. Also, The Passionflower Hotel is pretty funny, by Rosalind Erskine. About some teenage girls in boarding school who start an 'escort service' for the boy's school nearby to learn about sex. It's an older book, so it's not explicit, just funny.

Hitchhiker is good, Harry Potter, especially the first two books, have very funny parts, and Terry Pratchett is a wicked genius -- I second them all.

It depends on your type of funny, too. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is funny in a dry, ironic way. Bridget Jones' Diary is the only book that has made me laugh out loud -- I distinctly remember giggling on the airplane when I read it. A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck is very funny. Roald Dahl and Nicholson Baker can be funny in a mature way, too.

Ask your local librarian -- most are full of info like this, and they can help you narrow down what type of humor you like.

Well ,without doubt the funniest novel i have read is 'Alice in Wonderland'.U'll like it if u have a taste for "nonsense" in humor.
For those who like humor of the slapstick kind there are novels by P.G.Wodehouse,the Jeeves series. On the dry, sarcastic side u have the Dilbert series,eg the Dilbert Future.

Anything by Terry Pratchett, who writes the Discworld novels. You may have to understand British humour, though. His best were the two first - The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic

Notes of a Dirty Old Man, by Charles Bukowski.
It's not a novel, it's a collection of short stories. But it's an excellent introduction to Bukowski's work.
The humour is brutally funny. If you are a bit squeamish, or of a delicate nature, or too politically correct, then Bukowski is not for you.

It's not a novel, but a short story; How Anthony Made a Friend, by Jan Mark. Repeated readings never fail to get me giggling... and I rarely laugh of books or films.

I would suggest reading any Robert Fulghum's books. They are really funny things about his life and his thoughts.

Here are a few that I read:
I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten
It Was on Fire When I Lay Down on It
Uh-Oh
Maybe (Maybe Not)
