I worked in 2 aged care facilities for 3 years as a vlounteer and all i had to do was comfort them and make them happy... I think they gave me alot in return teaching me so much on the values of life and was hardship really is.. Some of those people were so brutally honest about life that i it went way over my head and they could see that and they would tell me about love. passion, and beauty... Now in my life i cherish every moment thanks to the people at those homes. THANK YOU ALL MY NAN'S AND PA'S AT THE HOMES ESSPECIALLY NANA BETTY!! (my favourite) =)

I always chatted with my elderly relatives, in my family the old people have always been a trip, especially my grandmother, she went to England with me when I was 17 and ordered a sandwich in a restaurant with tomato, she started singing to the waitress, "You say tomato I say tomato, You say potato I say potato, etc. My other elderly cousin would tell dirty jokes, so I value their company, but now ,most of them have died.
What bugs me about the elderly is when they get on a freeway and drive 35 miles an hour and they can't see over the steering wheel.

i agree with you for the most part, i feel they do have things to offer society...also though, i work in a job where all day, elderly patients are rude to me ( i work for a third party processor for pharmacies i personally do not have the capability of denying these patients anything. i only process claims, im not medicare, or their provider .and i express this to them, and try to help them get the medications they need for little to no money as quickly as possible ) but because of their "knowledge and lessons" they refuse to listen because they " know better than me." i think its great if they have something to offer and we have something to learn, however, regardless of age, i feel that respect is earned, not given, and just because you are elderly, that shouldnt be a free pass to be rude to anyone, especially when theyre trying to help you.

Like you said they evoke all kinds of reactions primarily because like all human beings, each elderly person behaves in his/her own unique way. Some make good use of their knowledge and experience, others become cranky and irritable yet even others become dignified, calm and serene. The only thing we can do is to learn and imbibe the best from them for one day we too will reach that stage !

Yeah, we can definitely learn a lot from them. Their experiences are far beyond the younger generations. I don't think they are a burden.
