Why are most of us happy on holidays?

I don't think most people are happy on holidays. If you are lucky enough to have someone to celebrate holidays with then you tend to notice more those who are happy on those holidays than the ones who are at home lonely or feeling sad over not being able to celebrate the holiday or make it nice for their family.
For example while many people celebrate and enjoy Christmas, many people feel sad over not affording nice presents or great food for their children or for not having anyone to spend Christmas with. When many people celebrate Valentine's Day some lonely singles feel sad over not having anyone special to celebrate it with.
You just don't get to see the unhappy people much on holidays because you are not usually surrounded by them and many of them keep their sadness to themselves.
As for why some people are happy on holidays... it's fun to have time off to do something special, something you don't usually do on other days. Most holidays involve being with your loved ones, eating good food and having fun and being happy with what you have.

We are happy around the holidays becasue we have no school on holidays, we get to have yummy food, see our family, and have fun!!

We get to see family and friends, talk a lot, eat foods, off work.

dont have work or school and we get to see everyone we care about....
although from my experiences i have to say i see more depressed people then happy, lol.

we are around our family off work and school and we eat and are just hapy!
