In today's astrophysics, many people are trying to contact ETs. But haven't anyone thought of its consequence. There is every possiblity that they can bring harm to us rather than harmony. Is'nt that how we look after animals? So why should we try to contact Aliens!?

You are very right. If we were able to somehow contact extraterrestrials it may very well mean the end of the human race as we know it. However - there is a chance that an advanced race would look at our potential to learn and grow as a species and either help us along or leave us alone.

Chances are we will not have to worry because we are many light years away from any kind of intelligent life form, and faster than light travel is not believed to be possible (unless somebody has figured out how to warp time/space - something that has never been shown to be possible).

Judging by the way we humans have treated members of our own species that we deemed inferior (eg - Europeans "discovering" Native Americans), it would probably not be a good thing if we were to be visited by an advanced race of extraterrestrials.

Our isolation protects us more than anything else.

Yes, it is safe. Trying to contact aliens is a safe act. This is because, aliens that have evolved to that level of tool use are bound to be attracted to the scientific reward that may be gained from such a venture.

Just think about it, why would an intelligent alien civillization want with Earth? Or humans? They would gain nothing by killing the human species, the only thing they would gain is a technological advancement.

If the earth is in trouble because we put cardboard in the wrong bin or because we sit at traffic lights with our car engines running then maybe we should take the risk with contacting aliens. It's all very well to say that they might bring harm to us but on the positive side, we could kill them all and then steal their planet when we have completely messed up our own. Call it a contingency plan for ultimate global warming.

You should know that the efforts at contact are all just listening for alien signals. Nobody is broadcasting a hello message. But our regular radio, TV and especially radar signals do escape from Earth unintentionally and could be picked up by advanced aliens if they were listening.

you could sleep elementary this nighttime because there aren't any ET's available "waiting" to make contact. None have made contact, none ever will. imagine about it...the universe is 5 billion years previous. It took people 5 billions years to get the position we are (and easily invented the motor vehicle and plane one hundred years in the past). Statistically speaking...another life kind, in the experience that they existed, ought to have advanced in say, 4 billion years. they have a a million billion 3 hundred and sixty 5 days head commence on us.. until eventually you're ineffective sufficient to believe people advanced the fastest. So in a million billion years time, they could have invented interstellar commute, and the flexibility to locate us right here, and that that they'd be right here already. So, no one is coming. it is only us. Kinda cool. and also you should call God an ET. he's not from this planet. yet undesirable information there...he's already made contact with us, many cases, many concepts. He even grew to grow to be one individuals and we killed Him for it. Edit: Neil, thanks. Makes my case even more desirable.

Most efforts to find ETs that I know of are trying to DETECT their presence by analysing radio signals from space, rather than to announce our presence to them. We've been beaming radio signals out into space for nearly 100 years, and THAT is announcing that we are hear to anyone who is listening.

But you are right in that anyone recieving these signals are bound to be more advanced than we are. Any civilization that is more than about 50 years less advanced than us won't have the ability to detect radio transmissions from outer space. So they would have to be either equal to us (within 50 years) or more advanced.

And only civilizations that are VERY more advanced than us would be able to come here and do anything about it. And we might seem like naughty little pets to them.

SETI is a foolish venture. The stupedous odds of contacting an alien by electronic means is pure pseudo-science Hollywood bunk. But there are some people with a lot of time on their hands and seemingly more money than brains who will listen for some little "pip".
However, if you tried yourself it would indeed be absolutely safe. It is one of the very best things that you can do and you do not have to go to some hick town in New Mexico to do it. What you can do is kneel by your bed and ask your Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to help you to understand reality.

There is no one sending signals outside the earth in an attempt to contact and civilizations outside our plane and I'm sure if there was a way, AOL would have been mass-mailings of their CD Rom's..

You may be right that ET's may not really help humanity in anyway, but the curiousty of man overwhelms his sense to stay away from danger...so yeah i think we're going to keep looking for aliens...

Oh, go for it!!!

If you're not living on the edge, you are takin' up too much room, right?

Hey, I can love an alien! I'll play nice....give 'em some dinner....take 'em to bingo and stuff. We'll get along great!!!

I do see your point, though.

Vote for meeeeee!!! Cause I love you and your aliens!!!!
