Bad English. Brits cultivated the habit of vegetable gardening in their back-garden or on "allotments" of rented plots to
produce food.

They began to talk in code so the foreign spys would not know what or where things were. "The walls have ears" and "loose lops sink ships".

Until recently the "tubes" the underground railway, were seen as safe havens.

Many children were sent away from their parents, to the safety of the countryside, never to see their parents again.

Many women married foreign military men and became "war brides" and returned to the country of their husband, sometimes to find things were worse and became destitute.

British kids became very adapt at identifying planes flying over, which continued long after the war, as did collecting shrapnel.

Germany lost it's self determination for a long time.
