The history. We can learn a lot from the past. Byzantium, Constantinople, and now called Instanbul is one of the most magnificent and ancient capitals in the world. I would love to visit someday.

Being the home of Turkish Delight, and kebabs, is all I can think of that's important.

Other of course than to Greek Cypriots, who had their land illegally confiscated when Turkey invaded.

EDIT: To the other 3 answerers so far, and those to come. This isn't the cooking section, the asker is referring to the Country (the Turkish user name is a bit of a give away there)

Turkey is one of the few countries in the world that is willing to remain neutral between conflicting countries on most of its foreign trade agreements. Though I wouldn't say they haven't had a few trade disputes due to outside influence.
Aside from that they are located in an area that makes them valuable for oil trade routs as many of Turkey's neighbors are rich in oil.
