I have just got back from my growth monitering scan, they've said I have a low lying placenta and low amniotic fluid, I am 23 weeks. Is it likely the problems could sort themselves out by the time my baby is due? They have booked me in again for a scan at 28 weeks to check growth, it will be my fourth scan and I am starting to worry now because they keep asking me back, they don't give much away when I ask questions but they havn't referred me to a specialist so maybe they are not that worried about it? has anybody else experienced these problems and gone on to have a normal birth and healthy baby? this is my second pregnancy, my first was uneventful apart from the same lack of amniotic fluid problem but it was later on in the pregnancy, around 32 weeks.

h&pm: shut up, do you really think belittling some body's legitimate fears is going to make them feel better? My baby is not going to suffer because I am a little bit worried about something, if you have nothing constructive to say then shove off.

craftyliz- yes the baby has been in breech position from the second scan to present but I understand that, that in itself is nothing to worry about at this stage because there is still plenty of time and room for him to turn head down.- Everybody, I realize the monitering is good for the baby of course, I was just trying to say that the fact that the monitering is required is worrying because they are not telling me much at the moment.

Low Lying Placenta At 23 Weeks

2016-12-14 18:46:48 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I had a low lying placenta with all of my 3 pregnancies until about 30 weeks, then by the next scan it was normal. As for the low amniotic fluid, i've heard in my nursing career that it is risky for many reasons. Most i'm not sure about, but i do know that you can have a prolapsed chord with low fluid which would be very dangerous for your baby as the chord quickly fails to work cutting of oxygen & essential nutrients to your baby. I'd say having a low lying placenta & low amniotic fluid would put you at risk for prolapsed chord. Look this condition up on the net or in a book to learn more about it then you can question the Dr's with a bit more knowledge. Good luck.

Try not to worry, the placenta won't move but as the womb grows it can pull the placenta up and out of the way. The reason they are keeping an eye on you is because if this doesn't happen then you will need a ceasarean (i've had one and as long as you give yourself time emotionally and physically to recover you'll be fine!). They will do this because of complications which can arise so it really is the safest thing for you and your baby. Take comfort in the fact that they are monitoring you and if you're unsure or scared just ask, they'll be more than happy to talk you through your pregnancy. Try and relax and enjoy your bump! Good luck & take care.

I had a low lying placenta at my 20 wk scan they didnt seem worried about it but booked me in for another scan at 32 wks and it had moved up enough for a normal delivery, it can move upto this time so thats plenty of time to move if its going to. I think the concern is probably because of the lack of fluid as I was told there was no need to check the placenta until the point when it was not able to move any more which I believe to be 32wks. Good luck and take it easy!

hi mam,
in more than 90% cases low lying placenta at 23wk move up wth growth of uterus during pregnanct..by the time ur date of delivery is near it will b in a upper position but if by chance if the condition persists also nothing to worry unless u start bleeding per vagina before onset of ur labour pains..all matters is ur low amniotic fluid which is a thng of more concern as it may hamper child proper growth but if scan says baby is ok dont worry..
u just need to take a lot of rest & hv a nice nourishing diet...that's it..
good luck...may this pregnancy end in an uneventful 1 too....take care...

when i had my son (now 5yrs old) i went as normal for my 20 week scan and they said nothing to me but they did want me to go back at 32 weeks for another scan and it was at this scan i found out that they were checking to see if my placenta had moved out of the way which it had. don't worry I'm sure you are getting all the best care and they seem to have everything under control. so try not to stress and I'm sure everything will work out fine and baby will turn eventually, plus i was born breech (and not by Cesarean) and it didn't do me any harm or my mum. plus just think of it this way you will be getting to see your little bundle of joy more times than most before the big day!!!

congrats and good luck!!

yes me with my 3,they too told me the placenta was lower than my baby, and if it didnt sort itself out i would give birth too that first
but thankfully nature helped, and it sorted itself out,
is you baby lying the wrong eway,as if so,it could move when she moves,
but i wouldnt worry too much,as its not good for you or the baby,
just see what happens
if it dosnt move, well you will have too have a section,as you cant give birth normally,
so either way,it will either sort itself out,or if not they will book you in for an op,
as long as they are checking you regulary theres nothing too worry about,
its a good thing they scan you often, there doing that too see if its moved,as if not and its getting close too your due date, well then they can make the arrangements for the op
but remember not too worry,if anything was really wrong, they would have you in hospial
good luck with everything

STOP FLAPPING!!!!!!!

Stressing yourself out is not going to help. Had a low lying placenta at about 34/35 weeks and it still 'moved' enough to allow me to have a natural delivery no dramas. And nipper was in the weirdest breach position until 2 days before I was due.
No point flapping-if the midwife/doctor was worried they would be referring you up the chain, so just sit back, relax, and enjoy being pregnant.
