A parkway is a 'way' around a 'park' (a road near a park).
A driveway is generally the only part of the house/property where you can drive. Hence the name is associated with driving, 'drive' 'way' (the way of the drive). I hope you can be at ease now that I've solved your perplexing conundrum.

In the name "parkway" the "park" means quite peaceful place and not a place to stop your car. A "driveway" gets it name because it serves the purpose to allow you to drive away from your home.

Good Luck!!!
