Most Americans I know, from aethiest to fanatic, get married eventually. But I know all these European couples, some who even go to church and are all un-pc, who just never bother getting married.
What happened in Europe?

Some of them have children.
At a school reunion I went to here, only those with American significant others were married. But all the Americans I know from my own high school are married.

Because people in Europe take the time to get to know each other before tying the knot. It's why the divorce rate in some european countries is almost nonexistant. And plenty of people in europe get married, they just wait to find the right person. And I'm an American, by the way, engaged to a european. (I've known him 7 years and we've been dating for 4 and won't be getting married for another 3 or 4 years).

why do we HAVE to get married???i don't get it.I've been with my partner for 5 years,we have no intention of getting married but we do hope to have children.why do you need a piece of paper to say how you feel about your partner?it's not about not "bothering" to get married,maybe we have our own minds and don't want or need to.
