1. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets
2. Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis Presley
3. Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On - Jerry Lee Lewis
4. Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
5. The Twist - Chubby Checker
6. Have A Drink On Me - Lonnie Donegan
7. Love Me Do - The Beatles
8. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
9. God Only Knows - Beach Boys
10. The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel
11. Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
12. Let's Stay Together - Al Green
13. Starman - David Bowie
14. No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley & The Wailers
15. New Rose - The Damned
16. God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols
17. (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais - The Clash
18. The Model - Kraftwerk
19. This Charming Man - The Smiths
20. Fools Gold - Stone Roses
21. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
22. Creep - Radiohead
23. Praise You - Fatboy Slim
English-biassed in parts, I realise. Plus I know the list runs out in 1999 (yes, Fatboy Slim is an odd choice, but it indicates sampling culture and brings the list to a full-circle close) but I don't really think there's been any pivotal songs since about that period. I've chosen tracks in a way that you can 'link' between them (e.g. Sex Pistols pure punk to the Clash's thoughtful new-wave to electronic music's rise with Kraftwerk, to the Smiths rejection of electro equipment, to Madchester, etc), hope you find it helpful...

For the 50's I would say Johnny Kidd and the Pirates "Shakin all over"
60's: Afterglow of your love. Small Faces
70's: More than a Woman. The Bee Gees
80's: Methods of Dance. Japan
90's: Don't Ask Me Why. Eurythmics
00's: No idea (Sorry)

Grandmaster Flash & Melly Mell - White lines
New Order - Love's Got the World In Motion - England World Cup Song

JUst purely cause they are cross over tracks that broucht rap and dance music to a white general public in the UK.

i think you songs should show the revolution of metal rock from 1950 to today.
For today's metal rock, you must include Linkin Park, Disturbed and Limp Bizkit coz without them there is no rock.
