i bought a PC at the flea mkt. that has a bunch of other programs installed that i don't need and don't want, how do i wipe everything out and start with a fresh and clean PC. right now it has win 98, 2000me & XP on it, it's a dell 2.5 with a 40 gig hard drive, 512 ram. i want to wipe everything out complety and reinstall win xp.

here is a link. You need to delete all partitions first , then create new partitions, and then continue installation

You need to start the computer from an external source like a bootable floppy or a bootable CD rom.....Make sure you have a CD of the operating system that you want to install after cleaning your hard drive....Type "Format c/" from the DOS prompt and assuming you have no partitions on your hard drive, you are done...If you have another partition then run Format d/ and format e/ etc. You are ready to clean install your new operating system....Run Set up and rest of it happens by itself....

restart the computer, when the hp invent (XP) logo comes up keep hitting (or hold in) the F10 key. go to advanced and click next. this will delete everything on the computer except the stuff it came with.

get a winxp install cd and use the format option on the disk to cleanup your system and install everything fresh.

you might need the driver CDs for any extra hardware that you might have.
