I have just set up my new wireless router, linked to cable & desktop computer. I was wondering if I could share a specific folder on the desktop computer and allow my laptop to 'see' it through the wireless network. My current attempts have all failed as the laptop cannot see the workgroup I have created. I am not sure where I have gone wrong. I am also looking into Shoutcast, would this be a better solution ?

Hi, having spent many hours setting up similar environments for friends and family, i can assure you the problem lies with a third party firewall product, Windows Home Networking does not like non Microsoft firewalls, in order to get around this, disable your 3rd party one and enable microsofts own. Make sure you are fully up to date with Microsofts security patching and it will all work (rather well too). Just remember to enable your routers security or you will be sharing with the street!

This can be easily done if you're:
Running XP
Have an established netowork

The easy way is to dump all your music into your Shared Documents folder. You might have to make adjustments to your firewall (OS firewall too) to make this work.

Or else you can goto the properties and share the folder that your music is in already and make a shortcut so other computer on your personal network to access.

when you're utilising Vista, may have issues of privildges. many concepts to manage that. the least complicated is to positioned the song belongings you want to percentage in public folders. Do what others have reported to double verify the sharing and protection of those public folders, yet you ought to be ok this kind. best of luck

You do not need to de-activate your security setting to be able to share files and folders - all you have to do is create a folder you which to share e.g private, friends or public.
If want to share your pictures and music with your friends just specify their details in the box that will appear e.g email address and click on it your system will automatically configure itself to accept sharing from the specific address you have given
