My Dodge Avenger needs a fuel pump replacement. It is a 1999 Avenger Sport with a 2.5 liter V6. Any Chrysler mechanics out there with a some insight on this job?
Thanks!

This isn't a real good one for anybody without a LOT of experience in fuel system work.

Your fuel pump is in the gas tank, and is part of a unit that combines the pump and fuel level sensor.

The vehicle must be raised, supported, and the fuel removed, prior to dropping the gas tank.

The vapors are the most danger, as a single spark in the right circumstances will be the worst nightmare of your life.

If you do try this yourself, be sure to have a least one other person around with an A/B/C/ rated fire extinguisher in hand.

Brass punches are used to unscrew the retaining ring on the tank to pull the unit, so if you're not VERY confident in dealing with a potentially explosive environment, this job is best left to a pro.
