There are many kinds of crashs including freezing, the blue screen of death and rebooting.
1. My USB camera had me install the drivers before I could plug in the camera. Maybe you did the opposite of that and you weren't suppose too.
2. Your drivers are corrupt including the USB motherboard drivers.
3. The port is bad/damaged.
4. You are creating a short.

Easiest way to keep your computer from crashing. DON'T PLUG THE MIC AND CAM IN!!!! See? It doesn't crash anymore does it? The two items in question may not be compatible with your computer. Check the model and then go to the manufacturers website to see what they've said about the mixing of your computer and their hardware.
