u can use simultateous equations(:
form 2 equations to solve it.
for a start, i will give u
x+y=150

C is the number of childrens tickets
A is the number of adult tickets

You know you sold 150 tickets in total so C + A = 150
You know adult tickets sold for $7.50, so you get 7.5A income from the sale of adult tickets.
In the same way, you get 4.75C income from the sale of child tickets

So 7.5A + 4.75C = Total income

Your total income doesn't make sense though, as you can't have fractions of cents.

Once you have your total income you can use the two equations as simultaneous equations and solve (in this case I would solve by substitution)

%891.125 comes from $891.25
% is near $ on the keyboard and '1' has been typed twice.

Assume all people were adults
This would make a total receipt of $7.5*150=$1125
Too much.
The error is $1125 - $891.25 = $233.75
It comes from assuming all people were adults
In fact some of the people were children and paid $7.5 - $4.75 = $2.75 less
So $233.75/$2.75 = 85 children and 150 - 85 = 65 adults
Use this if you don't have to know what an equation means but you have to solve the problem

total receipts is a percentage? or a dollar amount... if its a percentage then I don't know what to look for in the problem. If its a dollar amount then how do you get .125 Are you sure you asked it right?

The formula is X(7.50) + Y(4.75) = 891.25
X+Y=150. That's all the info you've given.
If that is what you are looking for.

Very good start pigley.

and then.. what is the relationship between the adult and the child's ticket???
7.50x + 4.75y = ? keep going student.

THIS STUDENT COULD BE FROM a country where the dot is the English comma $891,125.00. One whopping big day at the cinema?

Just figure that there is at least one or two children per adult. Start with one child first and if that answer doesn't match then its probably two. And just divide the price into the whole amount of each cost and you'll find your answer.

x is the number of adult tickets
y is the number of children's tickets

7.50*x+4.75*y = 891.125
and
x+y = 150

Adults 72 and children 78

suppose x tickets were sold of adult and y were of childrens

so, x+y=150
and 7.5x+4.75y=891.25
now solve them
