If you want to visit the Pyramids etc then you are better staying in Hurgarda. You still have all the great diving but it is easier to access Luxor and Cairo from here. There are direct flights from the UK to Hurgarda. A trip to the Pyramids is about £100 per person.

Egypt is a great place to holiday it has the best diving in the world so take advantage of the offers available. It has great weather all year round and the accommodation is fantastic.

You will find a lot of Germans, Russians and Italians in Sharm El Sheikh but dont let this put you off. Most of the entertainment is hotel based but you can get out if you like. The locals are friendly and helpful.

There are some fantastic deals about for Sharm El Sheikh and Huragrda so get booking youreself a great holiday.

NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EGYPT. I have been there twice. The first time was about 15 years ago and I really enjoyed the experience. The second time was about 12 months ago with my teenage son and we had a horrible, horrible time. Egypt has changed a lot and the focus is on money, money and how to extort it from you.

Everywhere you go and every circumstance you find yourself in people will make demands for money from you. People were even bullying my son into buying aftershave and t shirts and the like despite the fact that I told them to leave him alone. They will not take no for an answer.

We stayed in three five star hotels in Cairo and Aswan and the same thing happened which shocked me. There was constant pressure to go on private guided tours or take boat trips down the Nile and horse rides around the Pyramids.

I fell for a few of these things. At one of these hotels they convinced me to take a tour around Cairo in a Mercedes which turned out to be a broken down car with the seatbelts and the windows not working. Instead of taking us on a tour of Cario this guy drove us to his friends businesses to try and make us buy things.

When we got to Aswan I was pressurised into going to visit a Nubian village by the hotel manager who would not leave us alone. When we go to the village this guy wanted money to repair his boat. The whole thing was a nightmare and nearly everyone I met along the way including a Canadian couple had a miserable time and could not wait to leave. Egyptians also know how ask for money and tips in like 50 languages so my son and I ended up making up a language just so they would leave us alone. If they could not understand us they could not ask for anything.

Further examples were when I went to withdraw money from a cashpoint machine in Aswan. There was a guard sitting by the machine who would not let me take out money until I tipped him and a guy thrust an orchid flower into my son's hand and then demanded a tip...
All I can say is GO AT YOUR PERIL.....

Cairo is among the world's good megacities. High in vigour, Cairo is wherever you really get a feel for Egyptian road living and number trip to Egypt is total with out a stay static in the city Arabs call Umm al-Dunya (The Mother of the World). The absolutely unbelievable assortment of antiquities exhibited in Cairo's Egyptian Museum causes it to be one of many world's good museums and certainly a place for everyone's to visit.

It all depends on how long you'll be staying. In Sharm you can go snorkling, parasailing, sea cruising, diving, you can go to Safaris and the sea and beach there is just wonderful. At night there are many nightclubs, bars and nice market places with shops and restaurants, coffee shops, etc.
Its a one hour flight from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo, and give it another 1.30hrs by car or taxi to the pyramids and Sphinx.
You can also go to Luxor and Aswan, there are lots of monuments there, and the Nile cruises are enjoyable but I think it would be very hot at that time.
If you're a nature lover then trips to any of the Oasis is such a good idea.

Word of warning: a friend of mine went to Egypt for a Holiday a few years ago and said that when they went to the street markets and shops a lot of the shop keepers and sellers were very, very pushy! They where even shut in one shop apparently the shop keeper only intended to let them out after they had purchased some very expensive souvenirs! This was a good number of years ago and I dare say thing have changed for the better but I just thought it was worth you knowing. On the up side I think May would be a very good time to go as the temperatures will not be at their highest and as it is not in the peak season crowds for large attractions should be fairly low. Have a lovely time. For good feedback on hotels in the area check out the link below.

Sounds like a great idea. i would do it in a heartbeat.
It is very easy to get from Sharm to Cairo. Because it is SO far you need to take a flight on Air Egypt. Then get a taxi which is very cheap and go at least as far as Zemelak to stay or even stay at Giza.
I would recommend The Marriott or one of the Hiltons because they will have what you need available.
Otherwise take a taxi as you need it.
Also Alexandria is very nice.
Try to study some Arabic before you go Pmisler cd's are very good. They are repetitious but it helps you really get the pronunciation down along with the right words to use in Egypt.
Other than that I would like to take a boat trip down the Nile someday.

If your going for summer activities and sun bathing? Go Ahead.
If not? Go in winter. The weather would be better.

If your planning for a mideternian trip at that time of the year? Go to Lebanon or Cyprus. The weather will be cooler.
