Should I teach beginners guitar tabulature, or sheet music?

Both!!! Tablature is nice but If they ever want to play classical or compose for themselves they must learn to read and write sheet music, you do not need to go deep into musical theory but some would be good. ( =

I've been playing and teaching on the side for some years, so here goes:

Teach standard notation, especially to beginners- it'll give them a good foundation to work with, especially if they start getting curious about theory-I've been teaching my 9-y/o son, and he can tell the difference between major, minor, 7th, Maj7th and diminished chords-

I'm no classical player-tab works, it really helps when fingering's an issue, and for things like hammer-ons, pull-offs and bends, but for beginners, I strongly suggest you teach with standard notation-
