PC seems to be regarded as totally negative but surely the term, the feeling, the movement must have some validity...
Is there something valid trying to get out - ..emotionally correct?... intuitively correct?...

I guess the question should have been, 'has PC always had the derogatory connotation? I thought it started as a genuine movement to do the right thing and then went over the top.

I find it strange that people question whether we need political correctness, and rubbish its intentions. Surely, if people were perfect, which we know they are not, PC would not be needed. It was introduced to curb racism, sexism and intolerance of all kinds - it was needed because people held if not overt, then covert, bigoted views. In an attempt to redress this, laws had to be introduced. These, naturally offend the very people who held/still hold these views. If people didn't think like that, we wouldn't need laws to outlaw their actions and words. When people stop being predudiced (whether it's about religion, race, gender or sexuality) then we can dispense with the PC 'brigade'. However, this would leave the Daily Mail with nothing to write about...

The concept that PC is built on, respect and regard for others, is both noble and virtuous. Unfortunately, some have taken it to ridiculous extremes.
'Respectfully correct' is trying to get out, but is being smothered by well meaning but misguided people.

PC is the work of the devil, designed to set brother against brother and be divisive in all its uses. That it currently has the form of racism-control is irrelevant. It pervades society at all levels, and has nobody in overall control of it, yet it wriggles into legislation like a slimy worm, and people start to believe in its efficacy, and accept it as the ultimate law-maker.

I have never met a "politically correct"person who actually practises what they preach. This is because they are idealists,NOT realists.Realists are the only people worth listening to.

it's a religion. Those who practice this religion preach tolerance, but they are the least tolerant of all
