theaft, frord, identity theaft. Better means of communication/worldwide,
More than one way of communication ie text, faxs and even e mail, without the landline the internet would have been impossibal at the time it was released.
Due to the technology of a landline (fiber optics) many other things have been developed as well.
On the down side you could even say it played a large part in wars, imedeat communication at your fingure tips.

I agree, it's only since the advent of the mobile that we are not "allowed" to be uncontactable at any time. I hate having a mobile, I only keep one just so my kid's school can contact me in an emergency.
How many times have you heard "I tried ringing you on your mobile but there was no answer" (usually in a tone of hurt or anger) the implication is that you HAVE to be contactable at all times. Whatever happened to a bit of privacy and space?

Major changes:
Simultaneous communication become available, and less earnings for the post office, because people use phones instead of letters. Takes less time to receive things, because telephone made fax available.

In the old days when you got in your car with your phone, you didn't go very far. Usually the phone line would snap taught as you drove out of the drive way and you would have to stop. In some instances the phone cord would get wrapped around the driver's neck and pop off his head. This led to legislation and with strict enforcement the incidence of loosing one's head in a car fell off. Today with mobile phones one can talk to ones ex, fix makup, run stop signs, and eat Cheetos to ones content.

No telephone boxes any more, which must be of great benefit to the phone companies as vandalism must have cost a fortune!!

An awful lot of people can pretend that they are terribly important - hence the need to openly carry their phone around with them, in their hand, instead of shoving it in a pocket! And whats with the Blue Tooth thing that fits on your ear, and makes you look as if you are talking to yourself!! lol

Communication in general has improved a lot and it has paved the way for establishing contacts beyond the nation. In the end development has taken place.
