Thinking of getting one of those small sticky magnets to place on my dashboard, so I can place my nano on it. Would it stick, and is it safe to do this- would it harm the ipod?

I don't have one in front of me right in front of me, so I don't know if it's got enough steel in it for that to work. Regardless, there are stainless steel cases you can buy for the nano which WOULD stick.

It will NOT harm a nano. The nano does not use magnetic storage, or a screen which would be affected by magnets.

If you had a regular, hard-disk equipped iPod, it might be some concern, but the magnet is probably not strong enough to mess with the hard disk. It still wouldn't be worth risking, though.

All these people who are telling you IT'LL WREK THE INSIDES OF YUR IPOD are wrong. There is no hard disk in an ipod nano.

The benefit of this over some other holder is that it would just stick, you wouldn't have to slide it inside something else, which can be a pain if you have cables attached. Assuming you can make it work, I think it's a great idea.

Oh, and if it won't stick, you could always get two magnets, stick one on your dash and the other on your ipod.

It wouldn't hurt the i-pod, but very few metals are magnetic. Iron, the main component in steel is very magnetic, and so if the case is steel, it will work. Anything else and it won't. No magnetic stuff inside. btw, there is some truth to the idea that a large magnetic field in close proximity to electronics can cause some problems, so it is best to keep them away, but what you are proposing won't have any effect on it. Even if it had a tiny hard drive, they are shielded.

Magnets and computerized electronics do not mix.

Suggestion - for a dollar at the hardware store, get some velcro.
