Firstly, women view other women as competition. This should be clear to anyone who has ever dated. The jealousy comes from the desire to defeat a rival by attacking them directly and is a basic animal instinct.
As for men, no they generally do not behave in the same fashion, or certainly not to the same extent. The reason is that in order to build a civilisation, human males had to learn to co-operate to a high degree. They still compete of course, but competition is generally bound within a set of rules that will prevent it from becoming destructive (even if these rules are unspoken).
Women never needed to develop such restraint in order to compete for the alpha males.

I honestly think the reason that women most often don't trust other women is because they see the worst in themselves in the women around them. We as women know all the horrid things we could do to a person so we don't want to give another women the chance to do those horrid things to us. Men make buddies and wait to see if the friend will betray them. Women test "friends" before they can be made then say "that's how women are" when the test is failed. A fault in our reasoning as females maybe,but many women have learned the hard way not to trust other women,or men for that matter.It would be nice to see women stand up and again support the best within themselves and the women around them,but it would be nice to just see people do that as a whole.

I think if a man or someone was putting down on all women then women would rise together to help overcome the little blemish on their wonderful(which it isn't really) society of ranks and order. Like a food chain.Then they would go back to clawing each others eyes out. If one women is hurt then a few will gather around her and help her make a fight IF they agree with her suggestion, perspective etc. But then other women will circle around the offender to help her. If the offender has popularity ranks many women can turn the other way just for a slice of popularity.

well women are women, men are men, men are kings! well i call them kings anyway, first of all real men look to get more out of life and work for themselves and married men for their families, they know what they have and they know the value of what they earned, they look forward to life and all the good that it brings,
and well women, some make good wifes, most in this day and age hardly qualify for wife material, and their psychology, well guess they just don't look to life as men do, men want to achieve things in life, what do women want? good women would want a real man in their lives, so they can both walk the good path to the future together, other women, by that i mean women who's brain just don't work get jealous of other women, since well, they just like that, it's in the genes of women, it's like a skill, some women work on it, some don't.
then again i don't know, women are afterall women, only a woman can tell why it is so....men can't get into the heads of women, it's just too much of a mess in there :D

Jealousy thy name is woman... is an adage. But in real life it will not hold true, as men are equally jealous. Jealousy is inherent and one has to control and conquer it.

I am not a native english speaker,but I 'll try to tell you the truth:yes,men do the same but they don't wnt other people to know it and they make up silly stories about the girl they were turned down.
