In the 60's America is No. 1 in all aspets (military power, economic power, technologies etc.), how about now can Americans really proclaim that they are still No. 1?

The global economy is driving massive foreign ownership of U.S. land and businesses and a global job market which is driving new international employment tests that Americans cannot pass. We must catch up with the rest of the world in math and science if we are to be a strong nation again. For example, we have an anticipated short-fall of home-grown engineers that is so severe that we will soon not be able to maintain our national standard of living and we will not be able to do the research and development necessary to be competitive in technology any longer. ANYONE, ANY group that tries to tear down math and science curriculums have an un-American private agenda.

In the '60's we were engaged again in a costly war, $600 billion, 58,000 dead. We also had a draft with over 8 million soldiers in uniform during that decade. Economically we had little competition because a great deal of the world lived under communism, which stunted economic growth and ultimately led to the downfall of that economic system. Now, we are again engaged in war, our military is all-voluntary, and our defensive posture is greater than reported. Our status in the diplomatic world is probably the same. We have lost some ground at the UN and with even some of our allies, but the same things occured in the 60's. Given all the factors that makes a nation a superpower, including domestic agendas--education, standards of living, safety net figures, I would say overall we remain first. But, in 10 years, China and India have exploding economies and will be ranked first and second, according to UN estimates. One thing that may affect all nations in a serious way is global warming if controls aren't implemented inconjunction with economic growth.

America is going down hills with Mr. Bush on the wheels. Even small countries in south America are developing new ways of power that are environment friendly, while in the other hand. The Mr. Trouble is finding wars to make more money using all the Americans money to pay for it. It's gonna take decades for US to stand up after what's about to come. He is still on the power killing more Innocent people and building more hate among the world.

Of course the US isn't number 1 in everything but its safe to say that the US is the current global superpower. There has been talk that in the near future China's economy will surpass ours taking on the title as the next superpower. China however has an energy crisis on their hands making US control over foreign oil a crucial step in retaining America's status as the dominating superpower.

Of course we are still no# 1. Whos is going to step up and take over? China? Ha... We are long term strong where China will bust in ten years. When something happens on the place we call earth, who does everyone call? And we still are the only country to place a man on the moon. So take your metric's and go walk away cause the inch and yard is here to stay.

Its number 1 to me, but as for other countries we are not. I think if we minded our business more than maybe we would get others to respect us more. then again I really don't know how many countries actually don't like us besides the obvious Iran, Russia and China.
