I would say religion is the source of much, but not all evil. If people were to study the current world religions they would be amazed at some of the doctrine preached. A One World religion is on the way, like it or not. We currently see religion being used as a pretext for War/Terrorism etc. Check out 1 or 2 episodes from my listed source that you can find on google vid or youtube - very interesting.

Do you really mean to say that had there been no religion, there would have been no evil??
Think over it again. Oh, and yes, the term "evil" might have been first defined in a religion. So in that sense, yes, religion is the source of all evil, as well as all good. :)
[I do not see any other source telling us what's good and what's evil]

I am an atheist so here is my answer...NO. Religion is not evil at all. It is the person who practices the religion and their interpretation that makes it evil. I know some fine christian people. They love without condition, they give of themselves, and their religion brings them true joy and happiness. But there are many who use their religion as a stick to beat up others and to express their hatred and ignorance of the world. They do this in the name of some god and think this makes it acceptable. So religion is just the tool, It is the person that makes it a good or evil thing.

The term religion comes from Latin RELIGARE which means to rejoin whats broken to reunify. Religion in its very essense pretends to unify man with Himself and With its Creator which we call God. Assuming the fact that man doesnt exist alone you have to see that something is broken in man. Something that wasn't broken in the begining. In the beginig God and Man Woman were friends and talk to each other relate in a way different form how the other creatures relate to God. If God is the source of all good how can religion be the source of evil. Evil introduced himself in an attempt to corrupt the relationship between man and God. The Root of evil is the enemy of God and Man which is also a person The devil. It has its own existance.

No. Evil is the source of all evil---weather it involves religion or the lack of it. Some people's religion is what prevents them from committing evil acts and unfortunately, some peoples (so called) religion is what 'causes' them to do evil.

No not the source of ALL evil. Not even the source of any evil. The source meaning stemming from the beginning...
It's the people who implement it.
Money on the other hand is definately at the root of 99.99% of evil.
Good luck with this query!!

I wouldn't say evil, as such. People don't get into it in order to be deliberately wicked or mean. But I would agree that a lot of the world's historical conflicts have either been started as a result of or by blaming religion as the cause.
Humans love to fight, maybe that brings out their evil side!

It's not the source of ALL evil, but it's way up there on the list, in a way. I'd say money is the #1 source.

Actually Communism and Facism (Nazis) have killed more people than all the religous wars combined. This is because of population growth. In Nazi Germany the Jewish religion did not kill the Jews but the hatred of Religion. Hitler called Christianity a religion started by a dirty Jew. If you look at the slaughter of the previous century. Mostly it was done in non-religious countries and for non-religious reasons.
