Is it possible to make once mother tongue as the medium of instruction in the first few yeras of education ?

The biggest problem a child faces in the schools in India is the language. He/she speaks one language at home and other places while he has learn the things in English at School ! In this way, the child is not able to discover the things in a natural way - many of the enlish medium students cannot speak a proper english is a irony. What one does is thenis to rely on remembering the things rather than understanding and appreciating.Though it is true that one has to know english in order to get a job but that should not mean that a child loose all the wonderful things which would have been very thrilling if the primary education was done in once own mother tongue.

That can be definitely achieved in vernaculous mediums or so called state boards. For e.g. Gujrat board has gujrati medium schoools, maharashtra board has marathi medium schools.

However, admitting a child in local-medium school is not recommended. This may hamper his English language skills, especially. Also local-medium school may not be a very supportive methid for child's overall growth because of the quality of teachers and students.

Besides, at later stages the child may posses problem picking up and accepting other languages.

Yes it is possible and it should be made compulsory. If we teach in mother tongue child enjoy the learning with depth of knowledge. one who perfect in mother tongue he can learn other language easily.one who write good handwriting in
mother tongue is also write good in other language also. mother tonguage is base for all other language. for first five standards we should teach in mothertongue and then you can teach any language chaild joyfully learn.
