Muhammad Yunus is one of the human beings on this planet who is truly doing much to stop terrorism at one of its greatest sources, by eliminating poverty by the use of Micro loans. Lasting peace cannot be achieved unless large population groups find ways in which to break out of poverty.
The terrorism question is a very complicated question with no easy answers. People become terrorists for many reasons. One of the main reasons is lack of hope, growing up in grinding poverty. We have created a whole generation of young people in the middle east who have nothing to lose. These youngsters are the products of wars which ruined their countries, decimated entire societies and eradicated stable families. They grew up in camps, on the streets, and have little to lose through violence.
But terrorists come from all classes. Look at our own home grown terrorists who have grown up in affluence. There really are no easy answers!
However poverty is a great motivator.
The uneven distribution of wealth on our planet needs to be shifted around a bit but we know we cannot count on the wealthy to do that! It is in the hands of the normal people to help others, and every little bit counts, as Mr. Yunus has proven with the establishment of his Grameen Bank. Mr Yunus's insight was to recognize that the surest route out of destitution was to help the poor to help themselves.

Want to make an individual contribution or personally help such people escape poverty? Help ordinary people who have will and energy and ideas and motivation to succeed? It does not take much. In these countries, our dollars go very far.
Mr. Yunus claims almost 100% return on all loans his bank has made. Check him out on line and see how his banking system works. Then be really naive and wonder why our banks are not so human and compassionate.
The following on line organization gives folks the opportunity to take a more hands on approach towards helping the disadvantaged move ahead.

I do not think terrorism will stop soon. However, I also believe that terrorism is yet another tool used by our governments to help create a more paranoid society that, as a result, allows the government to remove many of our social freedoms under the guise of "protection of the homeland". To be honest, this tactic is being employed internationally, not just in America. Canada, Britain, it is happening there as well.
"Today, America would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told that there were an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government."
- Henry Kissinger, Bilderberg meeting, Evian-les-Bains, France, 1992
You cannot count on governments to help. We can only help ourselves. We need to reach out to each other. You can only count on results from the individual actions of honest compassionate individuals. Do what you can today.

Education and worldwide assistance to people in need--I'm not saying the wealthier nations need to give other countries a "free ticket," but the basics in food and health care would certainly be a step in the right direction, and would cost us far less than has terrorism and war. Most terrorists were drawn into that world because of they resent the "inequity" between the Western countries and other, needier countries. Without that resentment, we'd have far fewer terrorists.
