They would probably be treated the same way as elephants. You would want to stay out of their way most of the time.Of course the average person couldn't afford a dragon because they eat meat and you'd go bankrupt within a month but the best zoo's would have a dragon exibet where you could see the dragon sitting in it's cave or maybe flying around in a really big cage
Also there would be poachers of dragons who would kill them to make dragon hide clothing and whatnot. Whenever you opened a nature magazine you could read about how the dragons are losing their natural habitat to deforestation and were starting to attack cattle because they can't find food in the wild. People would be scarred of them just like sharks but then you could find statistics that only a few people are killed each year from dragons.
You would hear history from 500BC about how they have been used in wars and there would be the story about how Hannibal crossed the Alps with an army of dragons.(Hannibal crossed the alps with about 100 elephants in real life in case you didn't know.Also most of them died)

Dragons do exist nowadays, in different forms:
1) The descendents of the ancient Dragon Queens are still alive.
2) Kommodos are zoologically dragons.
3) If Winged Dragons are what you're talking about...well....how do you know they don't still exist somewhere, like at the bottom of our oceans for instance? Maybe they evolved into water creatures;)

A few things might happen. Dragon taming might become a job, our population will become eaten by dragons, people will start using dragons for acts of terrorism, instead of sending people on planes to attack a nation, we'll send dragons, and they'll become a "good" christmas gift. Who knows, we might skin them and use their hides for stuff. :/ kinda sick to do that..
